Nuevos Horizontes
Nuevos Horizontes, the Agency’s first preventive program to service the Bronx community officially opened on July 1, 2011, in the newly renovated space of our foster boarding home (FBH) location at 424 East 147th Street. Already, the program has garnered the support of community residents and begun to have a positive impact on children and families. Since opening last month, 26 families have enrolled in the program. At capacity, Nuevos Horizontes will serve 72 families from Hunts Point, Mott Haven, and Morrisania.
We are excited to be able to offer a continuum of care to our child welfare families in the Bronx and to work in partnership with all our programs currently active in the Bronx. We believe that by expanding and offering preventive services in the Bronx, EGSCF will assist community residents in better understanding parenting expectations and help them to secure better futures for their children and families. We are hopeful that by providing them with the tools and services available, at-risk families will recognize and address many of the problems that often lead to a family’s disintegration.
Nuevos Horizontes is staffed with a eight-member team of social work professionals that includes: a program director, supervisor, six case planners, and a part-time Family Team Conference Facilitator.
Community-Based Services
Nuevos Horizontes has taken steps to initiate collaboration with service providers in the Mott Haven community. A Columbia University Dental Van is routinely stationed at 149th St. & 3rd Ave. every Wednesday. As a result, Nuevos Horizontes has begun to refer clients seeking community-based dental services for appointments at the van clinic.
