HEALTH SERVICES
The Health Services Department is committed to delivering quality health services in a timely manner. Our primary goal is that every child, adolescent or client achieve their maximum health potential and be emotionally prepared to meet life’s challenges.
In recent years, the greatest achievement for the Health Services Department has been its ability to provide wrap-around services at the point of Intake. Typically, children who enter the foster care system have more chronic medical conditions than other children from the same economic background. This is usually due to them receiving intermittent or no health services prior to entering foster care. A significant number of these children tend to have a higher rate of birth defects, emotional disorders and school-related problems. Some of them have unmet or unidentified medical problems.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
The Mental Health/Crisis Intervention Services Department provides mental health support for all youth and families along with educational information for all internal departments. We use a multidisciplinary and holistic approach that allows us to have established relationships with a variety of community-based mental health resources to ensure that the well being for youth in foster care are being readily addressed. Through close collaboration with community-based providers, mental health organizations, and wraparound community service providers, customized interventions have been shown to be effective in treating mental health and developmental related problems among youth and improving knowledge about mental health/developmental needs amongst adults. Mental health intervention improves youth’s adjustment to the foster care system and increases their resiliency in surviving their traumatic past.
