Services - Permanency

Aftercare

I

n furtherance of its mission "to reach New York City's needy children and contribute to their health, physical and educational development until they can be returned to a proper home environment or can be made self-supporting", Edwin Gould Services for Children & Families is proud to introduce a new preventive service unit, the Family Solutions Aftercare Program (FSAP). Working within the Administration for Children Services philosophy of realigning and reinvesting foster care resources, this program aims to; expedite discharge from care, thereby reducing the length of out-of-home stays; reduce the likelihood of re-entry to care; connecting the discharged children with permanent resources, familial or alternative; and, enhance family functioning and connectivity in the community.

The Family Solutions Aftercare Program is staffed by an LMSW Social Worker, 2 Aftercare Workers, a Parent Advocate and a Community Resource Liaison; bringing together a total of 55 years experience in Social Work.

In this program, special emphasis is placed on providing supports for birth parents, through parent advocacy initiatives, workshops, trainings, support networks, etc. Additionally, the program makes a special outreach to involve fathers in planning for their child / children's discharge from care.

In sum, the FSAP is committed to providing children and families with all supports necessary for them to reunite, enjoy family life and become functional and stable in their communities.
